The traineeship at a glance
Two seats
You'll usually complete two 12-month seats, though dedicated trainees may remain in one department.
Edinburgh or Glasgow
Trainees generally begin in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, with opportunities across our other Central Belt locations.
Six practice areas
Your two seats are chosen from six practice areas, so you build experience where it interests you.
Applications open
Applications for our 2028 traineeship open in November 2026, so keep an eye out for the date.
Applications close
Applications close on 31 January 2027, so don't leave your application until the last minute.
Salary
Traineeships are paid in line with the Law Society of Scotland’s minimum salary requirements, which may vary depending on the year your traineeship begins.

Accredited specialists
Drummond Miller has solicitors who are accredited as specialists by the Law Society of Scotland in areas including clinical negligence, personal injury and immigration law. As a trainee, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from a genuinely specialist team, not just generalist practice.

Support families with wills, executries and trusts, building trusted relationships.
Litigation
Get involved in real disputes, working alongside solicitors before the Sheriff Court.
Conveyancing
Handle property transactions, missives and settlements, from offer to completion.
Family Law
Advise on divorce, separation and child contact matters, with care and discretion.
Immigration
Work on visa applications and asylum claims, with early client contact.
Medical Negligence
Pursue clinical negligence claims alongside an accredited specialist team.

Summer Internships
Interested in gaining experience with us?
Our two-week paid summer internships provide an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of life at Drummond Miller.
Open to third and fourth-year LLB students and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice students, the internships give you the chance to experience the working environment, learn from our legal teams and gain an insight into what a career with us could look like.
Our next summer internships will take place during August 2027, with applications opening in February 2027.
