Hi, I'm Ruairidh. I joined Drummond Miller in 2025 as a trainee solicitor in the Immigration Department at the firm's Glasgow office. I am now in my second year of my traineeship, working within the Litigation Department.
Whilst studying at university, I had a strong interest in medical law. Drummond Miller stood out to me because of its impressive reputation in the field of medical and clinical negligence.
I’ve been given quite a lot of responsibility during my traineeship, but members of my team are always happy to help me when I need it.
His Day Step by Step
Greeting colleagues, checking emails, and creating a to-do list
Attend meetings with one of the qualified solicitors
Legal research and drafting documents
Meet clients independently to take precognitions
"My first seat was in the Immigration department, and I was able to assist someone who had fought the Taliban in Afghanistan claim asylum in the UK. This was an incredibly interesting matter to be involved in."

How quickly you get thrown into different types of work. It can be a lot at first, but you learn quickly.
His Advice to Trainee Applicants
Be confident and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Try to get as much out of it as you can and make the most of every opportunity.
