Hi, I’m Matthew. I joined Drummond Miller as an Administrator in Edinburgh in May 2024 as a summer student.
Having just completed my first year of the accelerated LLB, I was new to law and uncertain which area I wanted to work in. I found the firm to be accommodating and was given the opportunity to work part-time in an administrative role, allowing me to develop my understanding of legal practice.
Keen to continue progressing within the firm and gain experience across different areas of law, I began my legal traineeship in July 2026. The traineeship has provided me with the opportunity to continue developing my knowledge and experience within the firm.

Review emails - these can be new enquiries, updates from Court, or internal from colleagues
Respond to and log email updates into our case management system
Review medical records
Attend Court – as a Court runner to pick up documents, or to attend hearings

Responsibility Without Supervision
Starting with shadowing, then being given new enquiries to handle alone.
What He Was Surprised At
How much interaction I have had with advocates and the Court in my short time as a trainee so far.
What He Has Enjoyed Working On
Group Proceeding Cases, which are a relatively new area of law in Scotland.
"The trainees have a great relationship amongst one another. At lunch we sit together and exchange stories about our day. It's good to be in the same boat as other people and have the chance to discuss the process with them."
