As the Home Office prepares to switch to a digital system of eVisas by the end of 2024, it was announced on 6 August 2024 that anyone with a biometric residence permit (BRP) (which expires on 31 December 2024) can now create a UKVI account and access their eVisa.
All people with a BRP expiring on 31 December 2024 should create a UKVI account prior to the expiration of their BRP. The Home Office notes that details of eVisas may not be automatically visible after the creation of a UKVI account, but individuals will be contacted directly by the Home Office (via email) when their eVisa is visible on their UKVI account. Until eVisa details are visible on their account, people can prove their immigration status with their valid BRP.
Anyone with leave valid beyond 31 December 2024 who has lost their BRP are able to use their passport or visa application reference number to create a UKVI account in order to view their eVisa, instead of applying for a replacement BRP. However, if a BRP is lost or stolen and the individual does not have any other form of identity document to create a UKVI account, they should first make an application for a replacement BRP. Once they have received their new BRP, they will be able to create their UKVI account and view their eVisa.
