Drummond Miller were proud to enter a "Dream Team" of 12 runners in this year's Race for Life in support of Cancer Research UK.
Georgina McBride, Lyn Sutherland, Louise Wood, Sarah Jack, Erin McHugh, Sarah Hoey, Jacqueline Stroud, Jennifer Sturrock, Jacqueline Moore, Donna Foster, Amy Donachie and Carolyn McPhee made it round Holyrood Park and raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK thanks to the sponsorship of colleagues, family and friends.
Carolyn McPhee shares some thoughts on participating in a Race for Life event:
When you run a Race for Life you find yourself dipping in and out of other groups of runners, so that at one point I chummed a woman running for her mum, who'd survived a double mastectomy a year earlier, while at another I hooked up with a group of girls whose friend was in the middle of chemotherapy after being diagnosed six months ago. Women were running to celebrate surviving cancer, or to honour the memory of someone they'd lost to the disease.
One in three people will develop cancer at some point in their life, with men being 14% more likely to succumb to the disease than women. Race for Life represents the stories of every one of the six million participants who've run it since the inaugural race in 1994. It's every one of the £493 million raised in that time.
In the financial year 2011-2012, Cancer Research UK spent £332 million on research activity.
