A recent article appeared in a local East Lothian newspaper stating that despite an increase in house sales across Scotland the East Lothian market was continuing to struggle. Figures taken from the Registers of Scotland show a 9% decrease in the number of sales taking place between January and March compared to the same period last year.
Our East Lothian sales team have found that Drummond Miller's total number of sales have actually increased over the same period by over 50%. The total value of these sales have increased by a remarkable 115%.
The Registers of Scotland figures also show a decrease in the average selling price for homes in East Lothian by 1.3% from £186,219 between January and March to £183, 857 for the same period this year. Again our East Lothian office has found that their average selling price for the same period has increased by 1%.
Nationally the property market showed some signs of improvement showing the number of house sales up by 5% whilst the average house price fell by 0.4% from January to March this year.
Whilst the media continue to talk down the local housing market we have found that we are busier than we were over the same period last year and are finding that properties brought onto the market at realistic asking prices are selling despite the doom and gloom portrayed. With this in mind we are of the opinion that there has never been a better time to sell your property since the credit crunch began and would be happy to provide you with a free pre sale valuation which gives you all the relevant information on your specific location and property.
