With work well underway on the construction of both the Edinburgh tramline extension and the renovation of Edinburgh’s St James Centre, Drummond Miller’s offices are strategically placed in the heart of a major regeneration of the city’s East End. Located at Glenorchy House, 20 Union Street, the firm’s head office is on the doorstep of this major redevelopment in the city. With further branch offices located in Bathgate, Dalkeith, Glasgow and Musselburgh, Drummond Miller offers specialist knowledge in Property, Lettings, Family Law, Immigration, Litigation, Private Client Law and Clinical Negligence, throughout Lothian & Borders and Glasgow.
The first phase of the St James Centre will open in October 2020, and is set to ‘revolutionise and regenerate the city’s East End’. It promises to offer over 3,000 permanent jobs across 85 shops and 30 restaurants - which will account for more than 20% of all retail outlets in the city. With its previous incarnation having been closed since 2016, the projected date of final completion is October 2021, providing a welcome injection of confidence into an area that has been dormant since the opening of the Omni Centre back in 2002.
With £1B invested into the rebuilding of the St James Centre, it is easy to forget the further £207M budgeted for the extension of the Edinburgh tramline. While the proposed completion of the extended tramline isn’t until 2023, when finished, it will provide a further 8 stops with the final terminus at Newhaven, thereby connecting the Airport to Leith.
For Drummond Miller, this will result in the firm’s head office being located in one of central Edinburgh’s fastest developing economic spaces - while maintaining ease of access for clients, due to its proximity to both the extended tram links, Waverley Station and the Bus Station. This will allow the firm to continue to grow in tandem with its surroundings, whilst filling its commitment to being a progressive law firm providing specialised legal services.
These are exciting times for Edinburgh’s east end – the huge level of investment demonstrates the city’s confidence in the importance of this area for the future of Edinburgh’s prosperity – something Drummond Miller is proud to be part of!
