Litigation: Successful Results, Court Reforms & Relocation

Drummond Miller's Litigation team continues to achieve great results for its clients who have been injured at the hands of others, such as in accidents at work, in road traffic accidents or as the result of clinical negligence.

In the last year, we have represented hundreds of injured clients and have achieved out-of-court settlements ranging from a few hundred pounds for a very minor injury to in excess of £6million for the most catastrophic injuries suffered by a client in an horrific road traffic accident.

Between all of our litigation lawyers, we have decades of experience in handling personal injury and clinical negligence claims, raising court proceedings where necessary, in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session, and handling appeals in the Inner House and to the Supreme Court (previously the House of Lords). We have extensive knowledge of investigating and preparing our clients claims, identifying the correct experts to instruct and ingathering all the necessary evidence required to establish liability and to prove our clients' losses. The Law Society of Scotland has accredited two of our solicitors, Liesa Spiller and Miranda Becher, as specialists in the fields of clinical negligence and personal injury law respectively.

Court reforms are planned which will require all personal injury cases worth less than £150,000 to be litigated in the Sheriff Court. There are plans, too, for a specialist court to be based in Edinburgh in which personal injury claims from around Scotland can be litigated. Our litigation team expects and is ready to be making regular appearances in this court. We can assist out-of-town solicitors in conducting their cases in this specialist court too. We will continue to deal with complex and high-value, personal injury and clinical negligence claims, in the Court of Session too.

As our head office prepares to relocate to modern, open-plan offices at Glenorchy House, 20 Union Street, Edinburgh, in June 2014, we are looking forward to working more closely together, sharing our knowledge and experience with each other, so as to secure many more great results for our clients.
