The Government announced on the 2nd of September 2025 the temporary suspension of Appendix Family Reunion. The briefing note from the government can be found here https://homeofficemedia.blog.gov.uk/2025/09/02/asylum-and-immigration-briefing-note/.
The suspension comes into force from 15.00hr on the 4th of September 2025. From that date, an individual seeking Family Reunion needs to make an application under the existing Immigration Rules that apply to family routes. The Government has amended the Immigration Rules to reflect this.
The Government has said that the suspension will remain in place whilst a full review is carried out of the Family Reunion Rules, with the intention that these rules will be reformed. This is disappointing news for refugees and concerning that the Government made this change with such short notice.
