In November last year, we posted an update about the Home Office’s plan to switch from physical Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) to digital immigration status. We advised that people who currently prove their immigration status with a BRP would require to register for a UKVI account to prove their status going forward, although the details and timeline were not yet known.
It has now been announced that holders of BRPs should be able to create a UKVI account from April 2024, and that the Home Office intends to begin contacting people to advise of this later this year.
The process will not be automatic, and people with BRPs will need to create their new UKVI account before the expiry of their BRP on 31 December 2024. Once someone has set up their UKVI account, they will be able to prove their status and right to work with a share code via the Home Office’s View and Prove online service.
If you require any assistance with your immigration matters, please do not hesitate to contact, either our Edinburgh or Glasgow office by emailing Immigration@drummondmiller.co.uk and one of our experienced solicitors will be able to assist you.
