In his Autumn Statement 2023 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced some changes to the business visitor visa route and the Youth Mobility Schemes.
In respect of the business visitor visa route, the intention of the changes, which will be introduced from January 2024, is to “simplify and expand” this route, with a view to businesses being able to access the talent they need. The changes to this route include widening the scope of the activities that can be carried out in an intra-corporate setting, clarifying the existing activities that can be undertaken in such a setting, expanding the coverage for the legal services sector and making the arrangements simpler for those undertaking paid engagements. As confirmed in the Autumn Statement, the government intends to explore further options for improving the business visitor visa route in 2024.
In terms of the changes to the Youth Mobility Schemes, these involve increasing the number of places available. For 2024, the government will make available a further 9,100 places through updated agreements, including new and expanded agreements with Japan and South Korea. This increase in places follows the increase in places this year, which were a result of expanded agreements with Australia and Canada.
