Robert graduated with an LL.B.(Hons) from Edinburgh University in 1965. He is an s,s.c. and an N.P.

He joined the firm as a partner in Pairman Miller & Murray from 1969 to 1991. He then became a partner in Drummond Miller from 1991 to 2004 and was Chairman of Drummond Miller from 1998-2002.

Since 2004 Robert now only undertakes consultancy work.
